Slurred speech after chemotherapy is usually a smaller side effect of another major side effect. This side effect is incoordination. Here a patient display irregular movements which is basically because of loss of voluntary control of the muscles. In medical terms, this side effect is known as ataxia and is experienced due to problems in the functioning of the brain.

Slurred speech is one of signs of ataxia or incoordination. A person will have slurred speech just before problems with coordination set in. Although incoordination can occur due to many conditions, it is most common in patients after chemotherapy. One of the first signs of ataxia is usually slurred speech.
