When a patient undergoes chemotherapy, he has to tolerate many painful side effects as a result of the drugs given. The therapy ends up damaging not just the cancerous cells but also healthy ones. That is why a lot stress and importance is given to chemotherapy research. |
When it comes to chemotherapy research, many of the drugs are first tested on laboratory animals. This allows researchers to study the impact of the drug on specific cancer cells. Basically different types of cancers are induced on laboratory animals and then they are given a chemotherapy drug and the effect is studied.
When it comes to laboratory animals and chemotherapy research, a lot of research is being conducted on minimizing or completely doing away the damage inflicted on healthy cells and tissues of the body. Many methods are being researched to help researchers come up with a chemotherapy drug that does not damage the body while treating the cancer.
Researchers are making progress in coming up with a new method so that the drug delivery can be controlled and in order to see the efficacy of this new method, tests have to be conducted on laboratory animals. It is only after conducting serious of tests on different laboratory animals, will the chemotherapy research move to human trials. However, it can take years before any human trials are conducted.
Laboratory animals and chemotherapy go hand in hand as this is the only way cancer patients can get newer drugs that will be more effective in treating and curing their cancer while ensuring that the side effects of the drugs are kept to a minimum.
