When it comes to condoms, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all. However, based on wide ranging surveys, a standard size has been evolved which is suited to the vast majority of the population. |
For maximum pleasure, comfort and protection it is necessary to use the correct size and one that fits properly.
If too large a size is used, it is liable to slip off during intercourse which could allow semen to enter the vagina or even the condom to get lost in the vagina. Similarly if the condom is too small, it could create discomfort and is liable to tear or rupture with the same results.
The first step would be to correctly measure the size of the penis. Measurements should be taken when the penis is erect. The length is measured from the tip to where the penis joins the body, and the circumference at the point it is thickest. The outcome of extensive studies has arrived at an average length of 153 mm and circumference or girth of 128 mm (6 inches in length and 5 inches in diameter approximately).
Most condom manufacturers in the US have adopted a standard chart based on which they have listed their products according to size and other attributes. All manufacturers have a standard size which has been arrived at guided by this size survey. Their standard condom is slightly smaller, and slightly longer than the dimensions of the standard penis. The material of the condom is such that it is soft enough to expand without causing discomfort. But if the standard is found to be unsuitable, then other non-standard sizes are available.
