Can Yoga Poses Cause A Raise In Eye Pressure?

Yoga increases self awareness on both physical and psychological level. People who suffer from chronic pain can use yoga to cope with their pain. Breathing through one nostril is known to increase activity in the opposite side of the brain. This practice can increase brain activity and better performance.  

The normal mean eye pressure value is 15.5 mmHg with a standard deviation of 2.5 mmHg. The normal pressure ranges from 10 to 21 mmHg. If the eye pressure is more than 22 mmHg then it is considered as high eye pressure. Temporary eye pressure increase is linked to tight neckties, caffeine intake, yoga positions where one stands on the head and isometric exercises such as weight lifting.    

So, can yoga poses cause a rise in eye pressure? All yoga poses do not cause increase in eye pressure. But yes, there are a few positions where a person is made to stand on his head can cause this. Hence, the individual needs to consult a yoga teacher before selecting a yoga position.
