When you consult a therapist or a practitioner, the first thing they do is assess your problem. Once the problem is assessed, it is the therapist's duty to inform you what the ailment is, how many sittings will it take to cure you completely and how much each sitting is going to cost. Even if the information is not given to you then you should ask for it.

Typically any treatment will take place over some days or even weeks. It will not be something that will be followed everyday because acupuncture does not work that way. It takes time from one session of therapy to the next session for therapy. Each therapy immediately provides relief to the patient and once the problem starts recurring the next session is scheduled.

Most insurance plans in the United States do cover acupuncture. However, it is better for you to check with your insurance company personally if they cover acupuncture method of treatment. If the insurance company covers acupuncture, you should also check to what extent they cover, how much would they pay and how much are you expected to pay as a deductible. Also, many insurance companies insist on pre-authorization for treatments like acupuncture. Hence, it is a good idea to check with your insurance company.

Depending on where you go for acupuncture, one sitting can cost you anywhere from few dollars to hundreds of dollars.
