Malignant Melanoma Life Expectancy Data

            Melanoma is one of the most dangerous skin cancers. Malignant melanoma life expectancy is usually not exceeding three years. Melanoma often happens in people with fair skin complexion. However, people with all complexions can have it. Melanoma usually looks like a dark mole spot. However, melanoma generally do not have regular border like most moles. Sun overexposure and sunburn will increase the chance of Melanoma.  People with a family history of melanoma and people with fair complexion should always apply sun tan lotion with SPF sunscreen. If you find irregular mole spot, you should immediately see your doctor. Melanoma that is detected early can usually be treated. If it is left untreated, it can spread rapidly and be fatal.

There are four types of Malignant Melanoma.

  1. Acral-lentiginuos melanoma. It usually occurs in nonwhites, and start on palm of sole. Sometime it may occur in a mucosal surface like vagina.
  2. Lentigo maligna melanoma. It is the slowest type of melanoma, and it usually occur as a patch on sun-exposed skin.
  3. Nodular melanoma. It usually happens as a distinct black tumor. It often happen to older adults.
  4. Superficial spreading Melanoma. It usually happens in whites. It starts with a mole shape. Then it spreads out all over the skin.
